Russel Carlson currently serves as Commissioner and Chief Health Policy Officer at the Georgia Department of Community Health since July 2022. Prior to this role, Russel held the position of Vice President of Governmental Relations at the Georgia Health Care Association from March 2015 to July 2022. Additionally, between October 2011 and March 2015, Russel served as Deputy Adjutant General at the Georgia Department of Defense, and briefly worked in business development at Carter in 2011. Earlier in their career, Russel was Deputy Chief of Staff to Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle from 2006 to 2011. Russel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia between 1994 and 1998.
