Jason Downey serves as the Immediate Past Chairman and current Board Member of the State Board of Education for Georgia and has held multiple leadership positions within the Board, including Chairman and Vice Chairman. Appointed by Governor Brian Kemp, Downey represents Georgia’s 8th Congressional District and became Chairman in 2022. In addition to roles at the Georgia Department of Education, Downey is a Trial Attorney at Kenneth S. Nugent, P.C. and serves on the Board of Visitors for Mercer University's Tift College of Education. Downey has a background in personal injury law as the owner of The Downey Law Firm, and experience in mediation through South Georgia ADR Service. Education credentials include a J.D. from Mercer University and a Bachelor of Arts from Marshall University.
