After completing their high school education, they attended Dartmouth College from 1974 to 1978, where they pursued a degree in biochemistry, mathematics, and social science, earning a Bachelor of Arts (AB).

Following their undergraduate education, Michael enrolled at The University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where they studied from 1978 to 1982. During this time, they obtained a Medical Doctor (MD) degree, laying the foundation for their career in medicine.

After completing their MD, Michael Jacobson pursued further specialization by attending Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine for an internship in Internal Medicine from 1982 to 1983. Michael then enrolled at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where they completed a residency in ophthalmology from 1984 to 1987.

Subsequently, Michael took their education journey to the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where they completed a fellowship specializing in the field of retina, vitreous, and macula from 1987 to 1989, further enhancing their knowledge and expertise.

Apart from their formal education, Michael Jacobson also obtained certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology, earning Board Certification in September 1988, reflecting their dedication to maintaining high professional standards and continuously updating their skills in the field of ophthalmology.
