Kelly Stout

AVP, Research Operations and Special Initiative at Georgia State University

Kelly Stout is the AVP of Research Operations and Special Initiatives at Georgia State University. Kelly has over 15 years of experience in research administration, management, and communications.

Kelly started their career as the Associate Director of the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience, an interdisciplinary research consortium composed of more than 150 neuroscientists engaged in innovative investigations using cutting-edge techniques to better understand human social behavior and treatments for its dysfunctions. In this role, Kelly managed daily operations and supervised a support staff of five. Kelly also collected and analyzed a large variety of assessment data and composed all Center reports for executive audiences.

In 2004, Kelly was promoted to Director of the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience when the position was moved from Emory University to Georgia State University. In this role, Kelly provided administrative oversight for the Center’s Venture Grant program for innovative, collaborative research projects (annual budget of $300,000) and worked closely with a team to develop educational projects and programs sponsored by the Center. Kelly also planned and managed the Center’s annual scientific retreats, research symposia and research seminar series (annual budget of $50,000).

Kelly has been with Georgia State University since 2009, first as the Director of Sponsored Projects Administration and then as the AVP of Research Operations and Special Initiatives. In their current role, Kelly oversees the daily operations of the Office of Research Services and provides support for special initiatives related to research administration.

Kelly Stout received their Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the same school.

Kelly Stout reports to Tim Denning, VP, Research & Economic Development. They work with Gary Brennaman - Business Manager, Research Foundation, Rick Parker - Director, Research Facilities, and Yuriy Lukinov - AVP, Research Solutions.
