Bill Farmakis has had a diverse range of work experience in the field of software engineering. Bill started their career at Fujitsu Australia Limited in 2005 as an IT Service Desk operator for the Caltex Corporation, where they resolved desktop-related problems in a 1200-user environment. Bill then moved on to work as a service desk operator for the McDonald's Corporation, where they provided support for Microsoft Windows, NewPos, Wi-Fi, and TCP/IP networks. During this time, they also assisted in establishing the service desk and helped create team policies and procedures.

In 2006, Bill joined the Australian Crime Commission as a Software Engineer. Here, they designed and developed components for the ALEIN application and served as an administrator for the HERMES input system. Bill utilized technologies such as JAVA, J2EE, PL/SQL, Oracle, XML, Tomcat, and Linux.

In 2009, Bill joined Geoscience Australia as a Software Engineer, focusing on architecting and delivering end-to-end solutions. Bill has been responsible for delivering and maintaining over 20 digital products. Bill notably designed and developed the new Earthquakes application, using Angular.
