Director, Marine Spatial Information at Geoscience Australia

Hamish A. has a diverse work experience in the field of geospatial information. Hamish started their career in 1994 as a Land Administration researcher, Cartographer, and Spatial Data creator and manager at the Department of Conservation & Natural Resources. From 1999 to 2003, they worked at BAE Systems Australia in various roles such as Team Lead, Cartographer, Image analyst, Spatial data manager, and Quality Assurance Auditor.

In 2003, Hamish joined Geoscience Australia where they held multiple roles. Hamish started as a Spatial Professional, and then moved on to become the A/Director of Climate Impacts and Risk, where they contributed to hazard and risk modeling in relation to natural disasters and climate change. Later, they became the Director of National Elevation Services, playing a key role in the strategic development of the National Elevation Data Framework. Subsequently, they served as the Director of National Topography Services, overseeing projects related to elevation, bathymetry, and surface water information.

In 2014, Hamish took on the responsibility of Leading High-performance Topography, where they provided strategic leadership for national topography information and developed a science-first framework for managing national terrain point clouds. Hamish then became the Director of Property, Planning, and Infrastructure, and finally the Director of Marine Spatial Information, where they led the development and operation of the Australian Marine Spatial Information System.

With a strong background in geospatial information and a proven track record in various roles, Hamish A. brings a wealth of experience to any organization in the geoscience field.

From 1990 to 1994, Hamish A. attended RMIT University, where they completed an Associate Diploma of Engineering (Survey & Mapping). During their time there, their field of study focused on Geographic Information Science and Cartography.
