Nils Sommer

Head of Product, Platform & Insurance Products at Getsafe

Nils Sommer has a diverse work experience spanning various roles in the tech industry. In 2012, they started working as a Software Engineer at Fraunhofer IOSB, where they focused on developing software systems. Alongside this role, they also worked as a Working Student/Research Assistant in the department of information technology, implementing a text parser for scientific terms.

In 2018, Nils joined Getsafe, a digital insurance company. Nils initially joined as a Software Engineer, where they contributed to the backend development of the company's insurance platform. Nils played a significant role in evolving the platform to support multiple markets and implemented features such as a full payment system. Nils then transitioned to product management and took on the responsibility of Head of Engineering for the platform. Nils led a cross-functional engineering team, aligned with stakeholders on the platform's roadmap, and filled the role of technical product management.

In their most recent role at Getsafe, Nils served as the Head of Product, Platform & Insurance Products. Nils was responsible for two out of three product areas, namely platform and insurance products. Nils reported directly to the Chief Product Officer and oversaw the development and performance of various squads within these areas, with a focus on payment cost and FTE efficiency.

Nils Sommer's education history includes a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Informatik from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), which they obtained from 2015 to 2017. Prior to that, from 2012 to 2015, they received a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Angewandte Informatik from the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg in Karlsruhe. Additionally, Nils has earned two certifications: Insurance Management Simulation from Swiss Re, obtained in May 2022, and AdA (Ausbildung der Ausbilder) from IHK Karlsruhe, obtained in June 2014.
