Giant Step
Maurice Bernstein has a diverse work experience in the entertainment industry. Maurice began in 1990 as the President and Co-Founder of Giant Step, a groundbreaking weekly club and concert promotions company. Under their leadership, Giant Step showcased emerging artists and became a respected brand in music discovery. Maurice also launched Giant Step Management, where they ran the day-to-day operations of a music management company, securing deals with major labels and developing artists.
In 1995, Maurice launched Giant Step Records, initially as an imprint of MCA/Impulse, and later as an independent label. Their label became a leader in US underground soul and dance music, releasing singles and albums by notable artists. Maurice also had successful partnerships with Motown/Universal and Epic Records.
Alongside their work at Giant Step, Maurice co-founded Groove Academy in 1990. Through this venture, they helped relaunch the careers of heritage music artists by organizing shows and events that introduced them to a new generation.
In 1997, Maurice started Giant Step Marketing, where they served as the CEO and later as President/CEO. Maurice developed this music marketing agency, servicing record labels in product releases and artist promotion. Notable campaigns include Adele, Daft Punk, Lady Gaga, U2, and more.
From 2015 to 2016, Maurice held the position of GM of Samsung 837. Maurice then became a Senior Advisor and Investor at Audigent, an audience intelligence platform that optimizes the targeting and engagement of online video ads.
Most recently, Maurice joined New York University Tisch School of the Arts as an Adjunct Professor in 2018.
Maurice Bernstein attended North Cestrian Grammar School from 1976 to 1983. During this time, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree, although the field of study is not specified. From 1984 to 1987, Maurice pursued further education at the School of Oriental & African Studies, University of London. Maurice completed a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree with a focus on Islamic Law and Politics.
