GICO was founded in 1971 by Luigi Ongaro and right from the start the company was renowned for robust, quality products, attention to details, reliability and Italian design.  One of its many distinguishing features was care for the safety of its equipment and those who used it and solutions that made cleaning and sanitising kitchens easy and problem-free, as well as attention to energy sustainability.

In 2020 GICO joined the Somec Group, a publicly listed enterprise that groups companies highly specialised in the engineering, design and manufacture of large turnkey projects in the civil engineering and shipping industries.
The Group's solidity has led GICO to operate on a global scale, handling specialty and large projects up to complete premium kitchens through a network of top-level partners.
