Merrill Birkner is currently the Vice President of Portfolio Strategy and Analytics at Gilead Sciences, a position they have held since 2020. Previously, they served as Vice President of Therapeutics Portfolio Management at 23andMe, following a series of roles at Genentech, where they led various aspects of portfolio management and operations. Merrill holds a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of California, Berkeley, where they also earned their M.P.H. in Epidemiology/Biostatistics. Earlier in their career, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant and as a Program Assistant at USAID. Additionally, Merrill is a member of the Board of Directors for the Bay Area Biotech-Pharma Statistics Workshop.
