Lucas Hartsough

Lucas Hartsough is a Senior Design Engineer 2 at Ginkgo Bioworks, Inc. since July 2018, specializing in computational biology, data analysis, and machine learning. Previously, as a PhD student at Rice University from August 2011 to May 2018, Lucas developed web software for genomic datasets and custom optogenetic hardware. Prior to that, leadership as the Caltech iGEM Team Leader in 2010 involved forming a team for the International Genetically Engineered Machine competition. Additional research experience includes optimizing chimeric cytochrome P-450 proteins at the California Institute of Technology and customer service coordination at Sawyer Aviation LLC. Educational background includes a PhD in Bioengineering from Rice University and a BS in Bioengineering from Caltech.
