Mingchao Chen has a strong background in financial risk management and analytics. Mingchao began their career at Fannie Mae in 2000, where they served as a Senior Financial Economist, leading the Multifamily financial valuation and loss reserve estimate workstream. Mingchao also played a key role in the development of a counterparty risk model and the redesign of the Internal Risk Rating Scorecard. From 2007 to 2010, they served as Principal Economist, leading the financial analytics function and designing analytical solutions on counterparty risk, asset valuation, economic capital, and pricing strategies. In 2010, Mingchao became the Director of Counterparty Risk Management at Fannie Mae, championing the redevelopment of enterprise exposure risk metrics and performing systemic surveillance on counterparty risk exposure. Mingchao then joined Capital One as Director of Balance Sheet Management in 2012, overseeing funding cost modeling for all lines of business and leading the segment profitability forecasting workstream. Most recently, Mingchao served as the Director and Head of Enterprise Modeling Division at Ginnie Mae, managing teams of Financial Economists and Risk Analysts to perform economic modeling on a $2 Trillion book of business for risk management, policy development, budget, and financial reporting purposes.
Mingchao Chen obtained an MBA in Finance from the University of Maryland, where they studied from 1998 to 2000. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Nankai University and a Master's degree in Economics from Zhongshan University. Along with their formal education, Mingchao also pursued additional certifications, including a FinTech Specialization from the University of Pennsylvania through Coursera, which they completed in July 2020. Mingchao also completed a Machine Learning course offered by Stanford University through Coursera in May 2020. In August 2003, they obtained the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation from The CFA Institute.
