Joseph Skelly

Joe is a Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of State Auto Insurance of Liberty Mutual. State Auto, a super-regional property and casualty insurance holding company headquartered in Columbus, OH, joined the Liberty Mutual family in March 2022 and adds more than 2,000 employees and ~$2.3B in revenues. In his last role, Joe was Controller of Global Retail Markets (GRM), Liberty Mutual Group’s largest operating segment. GRM is a ~$30B business spanning 16 countries and comprised of over 25,000 employees. Joe has held various management roles at Liberty Mutual Group in Liberty Mutual Investments (the Group’s $80B in-house asset manager) and Commercial Insurance. Functional responsibilities have included investment accounting and reporting, investment compliance, internal controls governance, and accounting policy. Before joining Liberty Mutual Group in 2006, Joe provided assurance services to public clients in the insurance, banking, asset management, manufacturing, technology, and retail industries for Arthur Andersen and Deloitte & Touche in Hartford, CT, and Denver, CO offices. Joe earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in professional accountancy from the University of Connecticut. Additionally, he holds CPA and CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters) designations. Joe joined the Board of Directors in 2020. He serves on the Audit Committee and the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee.
