Kyla Guru

Co-Founder at GirlCon

Kyla Guru is a cybersecurity expert and the co-founder of GirlCon, a conference for young women interested in careers in technology. Kyla got their start in the industry as an intern at the Center for Internet Security, where they applied their knowledge of OSINT and U.S. Intelligence Community analytical standards to author intelligence reports. Kyla also briefed the Security Operations Center (SOC) on trends and patterns in malware TTPs, and analyzed IOCs and Illegal Market data to support the Malicious Domain Blocking and Reporting (MDBR) service for 700+ SLTT governments.

After their internship, Kyla joined Facebook as a Community Leadership Program Fellow. In this role, they worked with Facebook's support, mentorship, and funding over one business year to further cybersecurity and privacy education/awareness through Bits N' Bytes Cybersecurity Education. Kyla also joined the class of 15 selected young leaders/social-entrepreneurs from around the world in leading community-building initiatives, co-collaborating with NCWIT (National Center for Women in Information Technology). Together, they created a fellowship program that supported eight young women in exploration of cybersecurity.

Kyla's passion for cybersecurity led their to the National Security Agency, where they participated in the WIN-Cyber program. This experience solidified their desire to empower other young women to enter the field of cybersecurity. In 2020, they founded GirlCon with the mission of providing resources and networking

Kyla Guru has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Stanford University. Kyla is also a Salutatorian from Deerfield High School. Kyla has a certification from ISACA in Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE).
