Ami Kane

Executive Director at Girls Empowerment Network

Education:

Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Psychology, and Gender Studies from Butler University

Master of Public Affairs in Nonprofit Management from Indiana University-Purdue University

Experience: Ami Kane, MPA, CFRE, is a gender justice advocate and servant-leader based in Austin. Originally from Indiana, Ami’s passion for girls’ services was first ignited through her undergraduate studies that introduced her to Girls Inc. of Indianapolis. There, she gained experience in direct services with girls, facilitation, curriculum development, and management. Her tenure during this experience also solidified Ami’s decision to pursue her Master’s in Public Affairs, Nonprofit Management, at Indiana University in Indianapolis.

After completing her studies, Ami relocated to Texas. She worked briefly with Foundation Communities before going back to her girl service roots with Girls Empowerment Network. Joining the staff in March of 2010, Ami’s first position placed her in a workshop and curriculum development role; but her biggest responsibility was planning and managing the annual Conference for three years, serving thousands of girls! In 2012, she moved into fundraising and became the agency’s Development Director. As she continued to grow alongside Girls Empowerment Network, she was appointed the organization’s first Chief Development Officer in 2018, got her Certified Fund Raising Executive credential in 2019, and became the first Deputy Director in 2022. When she is not working on gender justice or supporting her partner’s independent filmmaking business, she volunteers with Impact Austin and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Greater Austin Chapter, where she is a board member of both organizations. Ami was honored as the AFP 2023 Outstanding Fundraising Professional of the Year, Impact Austin’s “Core Values” 2024 Award Winner, she was a 2017 Austin Under 40 Finalist in Nonprofit Leadership, and she was a member of the Leadership Austin Emerge class of 2014. In her free time, she can be found at home cuddling her three black cats or in any movie theatre enjoying the show!

What I love about Girls Empowerment Network: Having worked in girl services since 2005, I know firsthand how vital Girls Empowerment Network’s empowering messages and skill building activities are for girls. I am so happy to be a part of an organization led by women working to make a real difference in the lives of girls. It is because of a commitment to our mission that I’m honored to work with our community to ensure the necessary resources to support our fabulous, life changing programs for girls.
