John O'Dowd

Clinical Director at Glasgow City Council

John O'Dowd is the current Clinical Director at Glasgow City Council. John has extensive experience working in public health, having previously worked as a Consultant in Public Health Medicine for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Dr Mills & Partners, Gorbals Health & Care Centre, and NHS Ayrshire and Arran. In their role as Child Health Commissioner for NHS Ayrshire & Arran, John was responsible for providing consultant leadership in the areas of child health and screening. John is interested in the use of routine population health and social care data to drive outcome-focused planning around health and social care integration. John works with local authorities, the voluntary sector, health services and government to improve health and reduce inequalities across the population.

John O’Dowd has a Doctorate in Medical Research (MD) from the University of Glasgow, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from Queen Margaret University. John also has a Master of Public Health (MPH) with distinction from the University of Glasgow, and an MB ChB with Honours (Medical Doctor) from the same school. Additionally, they have a BSc(Hons) in Physiology (intercalated) from the University of Glasgow. Finally, they are certified by the General Medical Council in both CCST in Public Health Medicine and Certified in General Medical Practice.
