Data Scientist at Global Fishing Watch

Jenn brings diverse experience in academic, non-profit and private sector settings to her role as a data scientist at Global Fishing Watch. As part of the Research and Innovation team, Jenn supports a variety of projects aimed at revealing the identity and activity of the global fishing fleet, leveraging her background in software development to build sustainable data pipelines that feed Global Fishing Watch products and research initiatives.

Jenn’s career has centered around using technology to make a positive impact on the world. Prior to joining Global Fishing Watch, she worked as a data scientist at a tech startup developing custom data solutions for pressing environmental, social, and national security issues. She holds a dual B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science and an M.S. in Civil Engineering where her research focused on leveraging satellite imagery for hydrological research in mountain watersheds. While getting her graduate degree, she co-founded and led a non-profit student organization that provided civil engineering based relief efforts in Nepal following the 2015 earthquake. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, rock climbing, traveling and ballroom dancing.
