Mathis Wackernagel is a prominent sustainability advocate and co-founder of Global Footprint Network, an organization dedicated to promoting the Ecological Footprint as a crucial resource accounting tool. With experience spanning over two decades in sustainability initiatives, Wackernagel serves as a board member for rePLANET, focusing on large-scale ecological restoration, and for FoDaFo, aimed at enhancing the credibility of National Footprint & Biocapacity Accounts. Wackernagel held the position of Frank H. T. Rhodes Class of 1956 Visiting Professor at Cornell University and previously directed the Sustainability Program at Redefining Progress. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Community and Regional Planning from The University of British Columbia, along with two honorary doctorates in Natural Sciences from the University of Stirling and the University of Bern, and an Engineer’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ETH Zürich.
