Principal Electrical Engineer at Glowforge

Bill Marty has a diverse range of work experience spanning over 25 years in various industries. Bill started their career in 1992 as an Electrical Engineer at Diagnostic Ultrasound (now Verathon), where they designed the electronics of battery-powered ultrasound machines. Bill then worked at Synrad as a Sr. Electrical Engineer, designing CO2 lasers and laser marking equipment. Next, they joined Motorola as a Sr. Software Engineer before transitioning to Icebox LLC as a Sr. Electrical Engineer, responsible for electrical design and compliance of kitchen appliances. Bill then joined Intermec Technologies as a Principal Engineer, contributing to the establishment of the company's Advanced Concept Studio and focusing on ideation and innovation. Bill later worked at Synapse Product Development as a Sr. Electrical Engineer, leading the development of a GPS sports watch. Bill then joined dBMEDx Inc as a Principal Engineer, where they developed embedded software for wireless ultrasound instruments and achieved FDA 510(k) clearance. Prior to their current role, they worked at Planetary Power as a Principal Engineer, developing control systems for hybrid diesel generators to power off-grid telecom towers. Currently, Bill is employed at Glowforge as a Principal Electrical Engineer.

Bill Marty holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, which they completed in 1996. Prior to that, they obtained their MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1987, and their BS in the same field from the University of Oklahoma in 1985. In 2015, they acquired a Professional and Continuing Education Certificate in iOS and Mac Application Development from the University of Washington.
