Staff Autonomy Engineer at Glydways

David Wheeler has held various engineering and research roles since 2011. From 2011 to 2013, they worked as a Research Intern for Argon ST and Boeing. During this time, they integrated GPS measurements into 3rd party Kalman filtering software package and created preliminary analysis tools for a DARPA project. In 2013, they became a Graduate Research Assistant at Brigham Young University, where they developed methods for robust, consistent navigation in GPS-degraded environments and demonstrated autonomous multirotor navigation during prolonged indoor/outdoor flight tests. David also assisted professors in mentoring graduate and undergraduate research projects. From 2016 to 2018, they were a Research Intern at the Air Force Research Laboratory, where they developed a framework for a decentralized, low-bandwidth, multi-agent cooperative state estimator and assisted in the integration of the ROSflight autopilot. From 2018 to 2021, they worked as a Roboticist for Uber. In 2021, they became an Autonomy Engineer for Aurora and in 2023, they became a Staff Autonomy Engineer for Glydways.

David Wheeler received their Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University in 2012. David then went on to receive their Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Brigham Young University in 2017.
