Abraham Lama, Ph.D. has held various positions in the engineering field since 2009. In 2009, they were a Field Supervisor at Constructora Souse. In 2011, they became the Geotechnical and Materials Laboratory Manager at Geocivil, S.A. where they were responsible for launching the Materials and Soils Laboratory, recruiting and training personnel, and supervising all laboratory tests and two building modifications. From 2012 to 2017, they were a Graduate Research Assistant and Graduate Teaching Assistant at Virginia Tech. In this role, they conducted research on the application of computer vision and machine learning techniques to the area of civil engineering, led a research group, and assisted in the management of a limited budget for new equipment. Abraham also graded and assisted undergraduate students in the Introduction to Civil and Environmental Engineering class. In 2017, they became Co-Founder & CEO of gNext Labs.
Abraham Lama, Ph.D. began their educational career in 2007, when they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Civil Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra. Abraham then went on to pursue a Master of Science (M.S.) in Structural Engineering and Materials from Virginia Tech, which they completed in 2014. In the same year, they obtained a Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer certification from National Instruments. Abraham then went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Structural Engineering and Materials from Virginia Tech, which they completed in 2016. Finally, they obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2016.
