Harsha Bhattacharjee

Dr. A.S. Harsha Bhattacharjee is the founding medical director and trustee of Sri Sankardeva Nethralaya.

He did his MBBS degree in Silchar Medical College in 1981, Assam, and then completed his post-graduate degree in Ophthalmology from Gauhati Medical College, Guwahati in 1983.

Besides doing Cataract Surgery in the medical colleges in large volumes, he also took the initiative to start modern Vitreo Retinal Surgery, Paediatric Eye Care, Oculoplasty, and Laser surgery for different diseases in the setup.

His vision became a reality in 1994 when he could mobilize funds and organize manpower to establish the Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya in Guwahati, the only tertiary eye care institute in North East India. The institution is not only involved in eye care services but also conducts Postgraduate medical course in Ophthalmology & conduct research activity under a Charitable Trust namely Sri Kanchi Sankara Health & Educational Foundation (SKSHEF).

He has received many prestigious awards in the Social and Scientific forum. He is the pioneer of the development of Intraocular lens implantation following cataract surgery and also the pioneer of Phacoemulsification, a surgical technique in North-Eastern India. Dr. Bhattacharjee has authored more than 200 national and scientific papers. He has presented many scientific deliberations in local, national, and international forums. He has chaired, participated as a panelist, and delivered guest lectures in many scientific sessions (both national and global platforms). He is also co-author of four textbooks on ophthalmology.

Dr. Bhattacharjee is the Examiner of Calcutta University, Gauhati University, Diplomate of the National Board of Examiners, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS). He is also appointed as inspector of Diplomate of National Board of Examiner, Post Graduate Teacher, and Research guide (Ph.D.) of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Science (SSUHS). He is also associated with various national and International Societies of repute as a life member.

Currently, Dr. Bhattacharjee is associated with them as the Independent Director of the Company.
