Kafi Payne

Kafi Payne, SHRM-SCP, has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Currently, Kafi serves as the Human Resources Director at Teleport, where they are responsible for ensuring quality systems for employee experience, engagement, culture, and performance. Prior to this, Kafi held the position of Director of Employee Experience, Inclusion, and Operations at Rainforest Action Network.

Additionally, Kafi has worked as a Consultant at E3: Education, Excellence & Equity, where they specialized in diversity, equity, and inclusion training and project management. Kafi also served as the Owner of Town Fitness and Dogpatch Dance and Yoga, overseeing the operations of these businesses.

Before transitioning to the private sector, Kafi gained extensive experience in the education field. Kafi held various positions at Oakland Unified School District, including Director of Talent Development, Manager of New Teacher Support & Development, and Coordinator of the Intern Support Program.

Kafi also worked as a Certified Instructor at COMMAND SPANISH, INC., where they utilized their language skills to teach Spanish.

Throughout their career, Kafi has demonstrated their expertise in human resources, employee experience, inclusion, and operations, as well as their passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Kafi Payne, SHRM-SCP, has an extensive education history. Kafi obtained a Doctor of Education (EdD) degree from the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in the field of Urban Education and Leadership. Their studies spanned from 2013 to 2024.

Prior to their doctoral studies, Kafi earned a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Educational Leadership and Administration, General from the REACH Institute. Kafi completed this program from 2011 to 2012.

Kafi also holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Education, which they obtained from San Francisco State University. Their studies at this institution lasted from 2000 to 2006.

Kafi's educational journey began with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in African-American/Black Studies & Spanish from Emory University. Kafi completed their undergraduate studies from 1996 to 2000.

In addition to their academic achievements, Kafi has obtained significant certifications in their field. Kafi is a SHRM - Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), which they earned from SHRM in August 2020.
