Gerry Bodeker

Professor Gerry Bodeker is a Harvard-trained public health specialist who has worked on traditional and complementary medicine for a number of UN agencies, including the WHO and the World Bank.

He has published extensively and is Editor-in-Chief of the World Health Organization Global Atlas of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine (2005). He is a co-founder, and currently Senior Editor, of the Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine and serves on the editorial boards of several related journals, including the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine and the Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine.

Working in the field of wellness, Prof. Gerry Bodeker, in partnership with GOCO, led an Oxford research team on a Qatar Foundation project documenting wellness traditions of the Islamic world. He also worked with Malaysian colleagues to author the book: Health & Beauty from the Rainforest: Malaysian Traditions of Ramuan (2009). He is co-editor of the well-received textbook: Understanding the Global Spa Industry (2008) and is currently working on a second edition. He has served as an advisor on wellness programming in Asia for Four Seasons resorts in Bali, Thailand and Malaysia and the Mandarin Oriental in Thailand. He is Senior Advisor to the multiple award-winning Bali wellness destination Fivelements.

He is a Board Member of Oxford Project Southeast Asia and is currently working with colleagues at Stanford University and the United Nations University in Japan on a project on Asian traditional diets in the prevention of lifestyle-related diseases.
