Matthew Allison

In 2005, Matthew founded SPACE Yoga/Wellness – Taiwan’s premium fitness chain. SPACE is known in Taiwan as a pioneering yoga/wellness brand with strong ties to celebrity and Taiwanese culture. SPACE has over 300,000 classes attended each year, and has trained more yoga teachers than any other yoga or fitness organisation.

Matthew has a long-standing commitment to bringing innovative fitness concepts to Asia. Matthew’s latest concept, that combines fitness and music, will open in April 2015. He has been practicing yoga and pranayama for over 10 years and is a registered yoga teacher with The Yoga Alliance.

Before bringing SPACE to Taiwan, Matthew was based in Hong Kong for five years as the President & CEO of EMI Music Asia-Pacific, Australia & New Zealand. Prior to that, he lived in Taiwan for six years, and founded Sony Music in Taiwan and China. At Sony, he held the position of Managing Director & VP, Greater China.

Matthew also has over five years of banking and consulting experience with JP Morgan Chase (Manufacturers Handover Trust), American Express and Booz Allen Hamilton.

Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Matthew graduated from the Lauder Institute, earning an MBA from Wharton and a Masters in International Affairs, with a focus on Asian studies, from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his advanced studies, he received a Bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College with a double major in Economics and Chinese.
