Deepak Mahanty has a diverse work experience spanning over four decades in the steel and power industry. Deepak currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer of Godawari Power and Ispat Ltd (GPIL) since November 2020. Prior to this, they held the position of Director at RHIM - ELT from October 2019 to January 2023. In their previous roles, they served as the President of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd., Executive Director at SAPL, CEO of TSUL, and Executive Director at Bhusan Power & Steel ltd. Deepak also held managerial positions at Global Steel Holding ltd, Ispat Industries Ltd, Rajinder Steels Ltd, and Usha Martin Ltd. Deepak's expertise and extensive experience make him a valuable asset in the industry.
Deepak Mahanty received their education from various institutions. In 1974 and 1975, they attended Bhilai Vidyalaya sec 2, where they studied Geology/Earth Science, General. From 1975 to 1981, they pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Process Metallurgy at Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University in Raipur. Following that, from 1995 to 1997, they obtained a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with a field of study in P G D B M from the same university. Additionally, in 1997, Deepak Mahanty attended HYLSA in Mexico and earned a Diploma in CSP Technology.

Godawari Power & Ispat Ltd. (GPIL) a public Ltd. Co., formally Ispat Godawari Ltd (IGL), a pioneer constituent belonging to Hira Group of Industries, Raipur, C.G. was incorporated in 1999 to set up an integrated steel plant with captive power generation under the guidance of visionary leadership of Mr. B. L. Agrawal, Managing Director, a techno commercial visionary having proven wide experience in commissioning & running of Cement Plant, Sponge Iron Plant.
