Doug Smith

Founder at Goken America

Doug Smith is a coach, mentor and leader with more than 40 years of experience helping automotive companies design and manufacture high quality products. His journey began in 1981 with Honda of America Manufacturing. While working on the assembly line in the Marysville Motorcycle Plant, he continued as part of the team that produced the first Japanese car manufactured in the USA – the Honda Accord. His success at Honda led him to a few of the top global automotive suppliers where he always improved quality and revenue. In 2004, Doug and his future business partner, Tatsunori Nakamura, were traveling to one of Honda’s assembly plants to support the launch of a new vehicle. On the ride home, the idea to start Goken America was born. They decided to “create something different” by getting the right people together to build better products. Today, Doug leads a team of dedicated, talented and creative people as the CEO of Goken America, an engineering design and technology company based in Dublin, Ohio. Doug and his team are committed to helping their clients design and build better products that millions of people enjoy safely every day. Doug resides in Dublin with his wife of 37 years, Laura. They have two grown children, Elle and JB.
