Emma Carlson Berne (Bernay) has been working in the writing industry since 2013 when they began writing for American Girl. Emma has since gone on to work for a variety of companies, including Macmillan (2023), Penguin Random House (2021), Rebel Girls (2022), Little Bee Books (2021), Little Passports (2022), WonderLab Group (2021), GoldieBlox, Inc. (2021), Disney Publishing Worldwide (2021), and IDW Publishing (2021). Her roles have included YA Book Author, Writer, Children's Book Author, Contributing Author, Picture Book Author, Writer of Character and Story Content, and Writer and Editor of Children's TV Content. In 2021, they also began authoring middle-grade graphic novels in partnership with the Smithsonian Museum of American Theirtory, with titles such as Time Trials: The Star-Spangled Banner (working title) and Time Trials: Susan B. Anthony (working title) set to be released in 2024 and 2023 respectively.
Emma Carlson Berne (Bernay) obtained a Master of Arts in Composition and Rhetoric from Miami University in 2003, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2001.
