Good Business Lab
Ushmita Seth is a data associate at Good Business Lab since June 2023. Prior experience includes serving as a research assistant at Ashoka University from May to August 2022 and working as a consultant for both the Government and Public Sector as well as in technology at PwC India from July 2018 to March 2021. Ushmita also completed a summer internship at RIVIGO in June 2017, focusing on customer experience improvements, and held an industrial trainee position with the Airport Authority of India in December 2016, gaining exposure to various technical systems. Earlier roles include a research internship at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad in June 2016, an operational internship at PepperTap in December 2015, and teaching experience as a classroom subordinate intern with Teach For India in July 2015. Ushmita holds a Master of Arts in Economics from Ashoka University and a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering.

We design, test, and scale programs using rigorous research methods, that align worker wellbeing with business interests. We work across a worker's employment journey from unlocking female labor to closing the skill gap, improving job quality, and improving health conditions. Businesses, because of their scale, hold immense potential to drive social change, while staying true to their principles. However, narratives that reduce the business of business to business, as seen traditionally, foster conventional rather than innovative ways of doing business. For instance, they seclude investment in worker wellbeing programs as mere philanthropy. And while worker wellbeing programs are plenty, they aren’t achieving the scale they should. This is because there is not enough research backing the return on investment they generate for businesses. We are working to solve such problems. We want to break the limited notion of business and help scale impactful worker wellbeing programs, through rigorous research. Because that, we believe, is the future of business – good business.
