Galen Thackston is the chief operating officer and a member of the board of directors. Prior to his role as COO, he served as president of the firm’s southern region, where he was responsible for providing strategic direction across all disciplines and markets and pursuing business development opportunities in south Alabama and the Gulf Coast region. In 1993, he founded the firm’s Environmental Division, which has continued to grow exponentially, tapping into new service markets and expanding geographically. Galen and his team have utilized cutting-edge techniques to address complex environmental problems for high-profile projects throughout the Southeast, such as the AIDT Maritime Training Center. Their work has been recognized by some of the industry’s most esteemed institutions, including the Association of Conservation Engineers, Battelle Memorial Institute and Partners for Environmental Progress. Galen serves on the Alabama Shakespeare Festival Executive Committee, Boys and Girls Club of the River Region Board and is a graduate of Leadership Montgomery. He graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and is a registered professional engineer and environmental property assessor in Alabama. He is also an appointed member of the Alabama Department of Public Health Environmental Committee and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Professional Engineers, National Registry of Environmental Professionals, Business Council of Alabama and the Environment and Energy Committee.
