Barnaby James

Barnaby James is a Senior Director of Engineering at Google, leading projects in applied generative language models and APIs. As an angel investor since April 2022, Barnaby focuses on pre-seed and seed investments in deep tech, contributing to companies such as Terraform Industries and SpinLaunch. Previously, Barnaby served as a Senior Principal Engineer at Amazon Global Robotics, specializing in last-mile delivery robotics and safety for autonomous systems. As the Founder and CTO of Tidal at X, Barnaby's work was recognized with the 2023 Time Invention of the Year for Sustainability. Barnaby's earlier experience includes a decade at Google, managing large engineering teams and contributing to significant projects like Google Assistant, alongside a tenure at Adobe Systems developing innovative technologies and tools. Barnaby holds a BSc in Honours Physics from the University of Toronto.
