Jim Giles is a seasoned engineering leader with extensive experience in cloud-based collaboration products, serving as VP of Engineering for Google Workspace Collaboration Products since June 2014, where contributions include the development of Drive, Docs, Sheets, and more, leveraging innovative features such as Smart Canvas and generative AI. Prior to this role, Jim directed engineering for Google Drive, supporting secure content storage for a billion users, and led projects in ad serving technologies at Google. With a background as a Distinguished Engineer at IBM, focused on information management and distributed systems, Jim holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, along with dual B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Evansville.
