Joan Smith

Joan Smith is a highly experienced Principal Software Engineer at Google since May 2016, with a notable history of leadership in cloud and infrastructure databases, overseeing a large team of engineers and enhancing service efficiency and reliability. Joan has held several titles at Google, including Senior Staff Engineer for the Office of the CFO and Staff Engineer, driving significant improvements in database operations and resource utilization. In addition to roles at Google, Joan serves as a Technical Advisor at Surface Ventures and Co-Founder of Meliora Therapeutics, while previously consulting in bioinformatics at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and contributing to software development at Twitter, Oracle, and Accenture. Joan began an academic journey with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, completed in 2013.
