Varun Gulshan

Varun Gulshan is a Staff Research Scientist at Google, specializing in computer vision and machine learning with a focus on interdisciplinary applications. Varun earned a PhD in Computer Vision from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Prior to their current role, Varun worked as a Research Engineer at Flutter, where they contributed to on-device gesture recognition, and interned at Microsoft Research, developing ideas for interactive image segmentation that resulted in a publication and patent. Varun has held various positions within Google, including leadership roles in Earth Observation Science and Medical Imaging, and was a core team member of Google Cardboard, the company’s foray into virtual reality.
