Stefan Smith

Stefan Smith has a diverse work experience in various technical and leadership roles. Stefan is currently working as a Principal Engineer at Gousto, where they contribute to Tech-wide strategies and decisions, guides the evolution of the technical platform, and collaborates with senior leaders across the organization. Prior to this, Stefan worked as a Senior Serverless Solutions Architect at Amazon Web Services (AWS), helping customers optimize performance, cost, security, and reliability when building with AWS services. Stefan also enabled colleagues to enhance their Serverless knowledge through talks and mentorship.

Stefan's earlier experience includes being the Head of Software at Osler Diagnostics, where they led the architecture and delivery of an R&D data exploration platform. Stefan also served as a Lead Software Engineer, overseeing stakeholder workshops, team hiring and planning, and implementing foundational architecture. Before that, Stefan worked at Elsevier as a Principal Software Engineer, leading the re-architecture of the Social Science Research Network platform.

Stefan's career started as a Technical Lead at Loop Energy Saver, where they transformed the team's software delivery approach and introduced cloud provisioning tools and automated deployment pipelines. Stefan also worked as a Lead Consultant at ThoughtWorks and as a Software Developer at Jefferies International.

Stefan Smith earned a BA Hons (Oxon) degree in Physics from the University of Oxford, where they attended from 2002 to 2005. In addition, they obtained certifications in Pragmatic Wardley Mapping from Hired Thought and attended an EventStorming Remote Modelling Online Workshop by Avanscoperta. Stefan also holds the AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate certification from Amazon Web Services, which they obtained in October 2020.
