Marcel Snyman has extensive work experience in the accounting field. Marcel is currently the Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer at Graham Holdings, a position they have held since January 2018. Prior to this, they served as the Controller from January 2016 to January 2018, Assistant Controller from April 2014 to December 2015, and Director of Accounting Policy from July 2008 to April 2014. Marcel's industry experience spans various sectors including education, television broadcasting, publishing, manufacturing, and restaurants. Marcel is responsible for overseeing all accounting and reporting functions at the corporate level, including SEC reporting, management reporting, and M&A due diligence. Before joining Graham Holdings, Marcel worked as a Senior Manager at Deloitte & Touche from December 2004 to June 2008, and as a Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers from August 2003 to November 2004. Marcel began their career as a Senior Manager at KPMG in Pretoria, South Africa, where they worked from January 1997 to July 2003.
Marcel Snyman's education history begins in 1993, when they enrolled at the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting Science. Marcel completed this degree in 1995. Marcel then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) in Accounting Science from the same university in 1996. In the same year, Marcel Snyman also completed a Certificate in the Theory of Accountancy (CTA) at the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria.
After several years of working as an accountant, Marcel Snyman pursued further education and enrolled at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. From 2015 to 2017, they studied there and earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus in Finance.
In addition to their formal education, Marcel Snyman obtained several certifications in the field of accounting. In 2000, they became a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) through the SAICA CA(SA) institution. Later, they obtained the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation from the Virginia Board of Accountancy in 2004 and from the District of Columbia (DC) Board of Accountancy in 2005. Finally, in 2012, they achieved the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) certification from the AICPA institution.
