William Denton

Assistant Principal Trumpet at Grant Park Music Festival

William Denton is an accomplished trumpet player with extensive experience in various prestigious musical organizations. Currently serving as the Assistant Principal Trumpet for the Grant Park Music Festival since June 2017 and as the Principal Trumpet for the Lyric Opera of Chicago since June 2013, William has also contributed to the Alabama Symphony Orchestra from September 2009 to June 2013. In addition to performance roles, William was a Band Director in Bryan County, Georgia, from August 2008 to June 2009. William holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Trumpet/Composition from the University of South Carolina, obtained between 2003 and 2005, and a Master’s degree in Trumpet Performance from Arizona State University, earned from 1984 to 1986.

Grant Park Music Festival

For nearly 90 years, the Grant Park Music Festival has been Chicago’s summer musical sensation, demonstrating that classical music performed by a world-class orchestra and chorus can have a transformative impact on the city. Showcased in the city’s most spectacular setting, the Festival continues to be the summer gathering place for all of Chicago. The Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park is the official home of the Grant Park Music Festival, with free seats available for every concert. The Festival is led by Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Carlos Kalmar, along with Grant Park Chorus Director Christopher Bell, Grant Park Orchestral Association President and CEO Paul Winberg, and Board Chair Adam Grais.
