James Zhang

James Zhang is a distinguished faculty member at HKUST Business School since May 2019, currently serves as a partner at VU Venture Partners, and holds advisory and executive roles at Great Eagle Holdings Limited as Advisor to Chairman and Chief Investment Officer. With extensive experience in venture capital, James has been a venture partner at GRC SinoGreen Fund since September 2014 and co-founded Formation 8, serving as General Partner until December 2014. Earlier career positions include venture partner roles at Softbank China Venture Capital and Khosla Ventures, along with a significant tenure as Vice President of Business Development at Mendel Biotechnology, Inc., where James co-founded the company. Academic credentials include a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University Graduate School of Business and a PhD in Genetics from the University of California, Davis, complemented by a BS in Biology from the University of Science and Technology of China.
