Great Plains Institute
Ava Thompson is a Program Associate at Great Plains Institute, specializing in program development and policy analysis since January 2023. Previously, Thompson served as a Policy and Data Intern with the City of Minneapolis and gained extensive experience in journalism as a Staff Reporter and Copy Editor for the Minnesota Daily. Additionally, Thompson contributed to research as a Research Assistant at the University of Minnesota, focusing on spatial data editing for census projects. Prior internship experiences include work with Hennepin County and participation in the PLOT program at Women Winning. Ava holds a degree in Political Science and Urban Studies, along with Mass Communication from the University of Minnesota, and is a graduate of Robbinsdale Armstrong High School.
