Joanna Plaisir serves as a Law Clerk in the Housing Unit at Greater Boston Legal Services since September 2023. Plaisir has a diverse legal background, including roles as a Graduate Research Assistant to Professor Patricia McCoy at Boston College Law School from August 2020 to September 2023, and as a Legal Extern in the Consumer Rights Unit at Greater Boston Legal Services from January 2023 to May 2023. Prior experience includes a Summer Associate position at Bernstein Shur in 2022, and an Immigration and Criminal Defense Legal Internship at MACDL in 2021. Plaisir also has a teaching background, having served as an American Literature and Speech and Debate Teacher at Broward County Public Schools from August 2019 to June 2020. Plaisir holds a Juris Doctor degree from Boston College and a Bachelor of Science degree with double majors in Political Science and Media Communications Studies from Florida State University.

Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) plays an indispensable role in the lives of poor people in the Boston area by providing free, high-quality civil (noncriminal) legal assistance to low-income individuals and families. GBLS helps its clients navigate the complex maze of laws and regulations, enabling them to obtain the basic necessities of life. GBLS annually provides assistance to over 10,000 people who live at or below 125% of the federal poverty standard ($30,750 for a family of 4).
