Tonia Wellons

Tonia Wellons is the current President & CEO at Greater Washington Community Foundation. Tonia has also served as the Head of Global Partnerships at Peace Corps, where they were responsible for developing and implementing key policy changes to expand fundraising capabilities. During their time at Peace Corps, Tonia raised over $5 million dollars, generating the highest external funding in agency history.

Prior to their work at Peace Corps, Tonia served as the Founder of the Prince George's County Social Innovation Fund and as the Senior Operations Manager at The World Bank (CGAP). In these roles, they were responsible for managing operations and overseeing the development of new programs.

Tonia began their career as the Chief of Staff/Assistant Director for the City of Richmond, Virginia. In this role, they managed the city's budget and developed new policies to improve the city's infrastructure.

Tonia Wellons holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in International Development Policy/Non-profit Management from the University of Delaware.
