Christian Koch is Principal Energy Engineer for GreenGen’s European team. He carries out and oversees the delivery of energy audits, energy and utility optimisation studies and the implementation of energy conservation measures (ECMs).
Christian has over 10 years’ experience in energy and building services engineering, renewables and energy efficiency improvements, in particular for sustainable heat and cooling networks (centralised heating). He has hands-on experience during site inspections, site installations and the implementation of ECMs from his work for leading UK housebuilders, the government and other clients across Europe.
Prior to joining GreenGen Christian worked as Heat Network & District Energy Engineer at Data Energy (UK) where he built up an entire engineering department, saved energy, cost and carbon emissions in multi-use landmark developments in London and worked on high priority projects for the UK government such as ‘HNOO’, the ‘Heat Network Optimisation Opportunities’ programme. Christian provided to the government the technical challenges, sub-optimal outcomes and potential optimisation opportunities in modern UK heat networks - one of the key pillars for sustainable heating in many European countries. His project work was based on site inspections, multidisciplinary plant/ system testing, the installation of additional energy meters/ sensors as well as the analysis of mBus, ModBus, pulse output, BMS, AMR, SCADA or data logger data.
Christian is experienced in energy modelling, typical building compliance calculations and sustainability/low energy standards such as BREEAM or Passivhaus through his work at the BRE (UK) and his experience from his home country, Germany.
Christian received a Bachelor of Engineering in Energy & Environmental Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering with Energy & Environmental Engineering from the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK) in Germany. He is CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant (UK), CIBSE Heat Network Consultant (UK), CSCS card holder (UK Health & Safety awareness for site visits) and member in the German Association of Engineers (VDI).
