Meagan Sykes is an experienced energy and sustainability professional currently serving as the Energy Manager at Sobeys since August 2023, focusing on the company's climate action plan and efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Sykes has been an Executive Committee Member and Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Green Building Initiative since November 2021. Previously, Sykes worked as a Sustainability, Green Building & Construction Consultant at Solterre Design from May 2018 to August 2023, where responsibilities included facilitating green certification processes. Prior to that, Sykes held the position of Sustainability Program Manager at DePauw University, contributing to various sustainability initiatives and program growth, and interned at the City of Knoxville's Office of Sustainability, leading community energy planning efforts. Sykes holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Maryville College.

Green Building Initiative
The Green Building Initiative (GBI) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the built environment and reduce climate impacts through exceptional education, tools, standards, and assessments that deliver sustainable, healthy, and resilient buildings. Our strategy for accomplishing our goals involves education and promotion on the use of GBI's Green Globes certification program for commercial buildings and GBI's Guiding Principles Compliance and third-party assessment program for federal building sustainability requirements.
