Ray Farmer has over 20 years of experience in the biotech industry, with a focus on microbial development and strain engineering. Ray worked at Metabolix, Inc. from 2001 to 2016, where they successfully developed PHA production strains and supervised multiple projects. At GreenLight Biosciences, Inc. since 2017, Ray served as the Principal Scientist and Head of Strain Engineering, overseeing the development of microbial strains for cell-free reaction platforms. Ray emphasized short turnaround times and quality control to convert bioinformatics discoveries into actual material quickly. Ray also worked on continuously improving microbial strain chassis to reduce cost drivers in cell-free reaction technology.
Ray Farmer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University, where they studied from 1989 to 1994. Ray later pursued a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from UCLA, completing their studies from 1997 to 2000.
