Thomas Shirley has a significant amount of work experience in the field of IT and network services. Thomas started their career as a Systems Analyst at Portadown College of FE in 1991 and held this role until 2000. Thomas then worked as a Network Administrator at Upper Bann Institute from 2000 to 2009. In 2009, they joined Southern Regional College as an ICT Systems and Infrastructure Manager, and later became the Head of IT and Network Services in October 2017.
Thomas Shirley attended Markethill High School from 1981 to 1986. Following that, they enrolled in Armagh College of FE from 1986 to 1989. Lastly, they pursued a degree in Computer Science at the University of Ulster from 1989 to 1991.

Southern Regional College is one of the largest education providers in Northern Ireland with approximately 10,000 students enrolled annually and over 900 members of staff. Straddled between the two council areas of Armagh, Banbridge & Craigavon and Newry, Mourne & Down in the southern part of NI, the College operates from 5 campuses in Armagh, Banbridge, Lurgan, Newry and Portadown, with community provision also offered across the region.
