Scott Carlin has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Scott began their career as a Civil Engineer Officer with the United States Air Force in 1989 and served in this role until 1997. In 1997, they joined Mercer University as an Assistant Director of Facilities. After two years, they moved to School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties where they served as the Coordinator of Facilities Operations for 20 years. In 2019, Scott joined Greenville County Schools as the Executive Director of Facilities. Alongside their civilian career, they have been actively involved in the US Air Force Reserve since 1997, holding various positions such as Commander, Deputy Commander, IMA to the Commander, Civil Engineer S-Team Officer, Deputy Commander of Readiness, and IMA to the Director of Installations. Their most recent role in the Air Force Reserve is serving as IMA to the Director of Installations, HQ US Air Forces Central Command/A7.

Scott Carlin has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from The Citadel, which they obtained from 1984 to 1989. Scott also attended various military schools, including the USAF Squadron Officer's School in 1996, the USAF Air Command and Staff College from 2005 to 2006, and the Reformed Theological Seminary from 2007 to 2011. Scott then attended the USAF Air War College in 2013 and 2014.
