Ishira Fernando

Ishira Fernando is a Machine Learning Engineer at Gridmatic since February 2023, and has been a Research Volunteer at Cornell Lab of Ornithology since March 2020, focusing on unsupervised methods for image embeddings to enhance the MerlinBirdID vision functionality. Previously, Ishira completed an internship at Premier Tech in 2021, achieving significant improvements in object detection performance using Tensorflow. Prior experience includes a research internship at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, where an honors thesis on Bayesian WIMP Parameter Inference was authored, along with contributions to data storage pipelines and infrastructure projects. Ishira's academic background includes a Master of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Physics, both from Stanford University.
