In this role, they were responsible for leading transrational research with the goal of clinical trials in humans. This type of research is essential between fundamental research and clinical research. The goal is to create targeted and less cytotoxic treatments that focus on diseased cells and/or bolster the immune system of patients (immunotherapy). This would allow patients to return to their families and social lives more quickly and in better physical condition.

The interface between the sea and health led scientists to work on a molecule with immunostimulatory activity, extracted from a red algae called Solaria Cordalis. In June 2014, they filed a patent for its bioactivity.
