The Gruter Institute is an interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to a simple founding principle: society's most pressing problems are best understood, and best solved, by bringing science, law, and policy together with insight from other disciplines. For over forty years, we've created a space where law, evolutionary biology, behavioral economics, anthropology, and finance exchange knowledge and collaborate, rather than working in isolation.
In practice, this happens through ongoing research collaborations we call "Co-Labs," bringing together leaders across disciplines to investigate core questions of cooperation, trust, and human behavior in society. Co-Labs produce tangible outputs, including conferences, publications, policy recommendations, and the design of innovative institutional and legal frameworks, applied to pressing issues in artificial intelligence policy, pandemic preparedness, regulation, innovation, and leadership.
Through more than 150 conferences and publications, the Gruter Institute continues to serve as a hub for interdisciplinary research at the intersection of law, behavioral science, economics, and public policy, helping build institutions better suited to the world we actually live in.
