Andrew Carle is an award winning professor and Executive-in-Residence and Founding Director of the Program in Senior Housing Administration at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. The program offers the first curricula in the nation dedicated exclusively to the rapidly growing senior housing field. Mr. Carle brings nearly 30 years executive level experience to the program, including serving as a founding executive for a national Top 10 senior housing provider, for whom he developed both first generation operating systems and first-in-industry ancillary service programs. Prior to senior housing Mr. Carle served as a hospital CEO, COO, and Director of Strategic Planning and Marketing for vertically-integrated healthcare systems. Mr. Carle has received national and international recognition for identifying and defining a new category of senior housing – University Based Retirement Communities (UBRC’s)™, as well as a definition and categories for “Nana” Technology™ (technologies for older adults). His work has been featured or cited in or on CBS News, CNN, NPR, TIME, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA TODAY, and U.S. News & World Report, among others; internationally in BBC News, Agence France-Presse, KYODO News Service, the Australian Broadcast Corporation; and in more than 200 senior housing and aging services industry publications. Mr. Carle has published numerous articles and presented nationally and internationally on a variety of senior housing operations, marketing, and related topics, including providing the keynote address at the 25th Australian Congress on Aging. His book, “Moments, Memories, and Mission: Stories from the Field of Assisted Living”, received a Silver Award during the 15th Annual National Mature Market Media competition. He is the recipient of a “Best of the Best in Aging Services” Award from Aging News Alert, the “Leaders in Aging – Mentor Award” from the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, and “Senior Faculty – Master Teacher Award” from the George Mason University College of Health and Human Services. In 2010, Mr. Carle was recognized by Senior Living Executive magazine as one of six “people of influence” for the senior living industry. Mr. Carle continues to serve as a consultant to the senior housing industry, universities, and technology companies, with past and current clients including AARP, APPLE, Nintendo, and the Assisted Living Federation of America, among others.
